Front End Web Developer (WordPress)

Location: Sheffield City Centre, Hybrid

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Ref: AMR D001

Type: Full Time, Permanent

We’re working with a growing digital agency based in Sheffield city centre who are looking to bring in an experienced Front End Web Developer to take ownership of their WordPress projects and help shape the future of their web division.

This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely enjoys building high-quality websites and takes pride in doing things properly. It’s not junior, and it’s not purely strategic — you’ll lead by example, set the quality bar, and play a key role as the agency continues to evolve.

The role
You’ll be responsible for delivering and managing WordPress websites from build through to ongoing improvement. Initially, this role is very hands-on, with the opportunity to move more into leadership, management and strategy as the web division grows.
You’ll work closely with clients and collaborate with internal SEO, PPC, Content and Creative teams, ensuring every site is technically sound, performant and built with long-term success in mind.

What you’ll be doing

  • Building pixel-perfect WordPress websites from Figma and PDF designs
  • Working primarily with existing themes, enhancing and customising rather than rebuilding unnecessarily
  • Leading web projects end-to-end, owning delivery, quality and standards
  • Managing and maintaining multiple WordPress sites (updates, security, performance, bug fixes)
  • Adding new pages, layouts and features on an ongoing basis
  • Working with WooCommerce, integrations, APIs and third-party tools
  • Handling hosting, domains, DNS, migrations and staging-to-live workflows
  • Supporting and managing freelancers or junior team members where needed
  • Communicating clearly and calmly with clients about technical decisions

Core technical requirements

  • WordPress (essential)
  • Strong, hands-on WordPress experience (this is not a platform-hopping role)
  • Solid PHP knowledge and understanding of WordPress architecture
  • Confident with custom templates, post types, hooks and filters
  • Experience with Salient theme and WPBakery preferred
  • Elementor avoided where possible due to performance and maintainability
  • Front end
  • Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Excellent attention to detail across desktop and mobile
  • Deep understanding of responsive layouts and cross-browser behaviour
  • Pixel-perfect builds are non-negotiable
  • Bonus experience
  • Shopify or BigCommerce
  • WhatConverts, CRM integrations, APIs

SEO, UX & performance

  • Good understanding of technical SEO fundamentals
  • Strong awareness of UX, user journeys and conversion
  • Understands how hosting, infrastructure and build decisions impact SEO and performance
  • Not a designer, but appreciates how design choices affect usability and results

About you

  • A senior WordPress developer who wants ownership, not just tickets
  • Calm, organised and quality-driven
  • Comfortable speaking directly with clients and representing the agency professionally
  • Cares about performance, maintainability and long-term outcomes
  • Not interested in cutting corners or quick wins

Why apply?

  • Genuine opportunity to shape and lead the web function
  • High level of trust and autonomy
  • Hybrid working
  • Supportive agency environment with strong collaboration across teams
  • Clear progression as the business grows

If this sounds like the kind of role where you’d enjoy building things properly and having real ownership, I’d love to tell you more.
